J.J.

J.J. has been tagged. I need to tell 5 things that you might not know about J.J..

1. He loves airplanes and always goes flying with his dad. He has learned that a Hangar is somewhere to store an airplane and so for hangars (the ones in your closet), he calls them hookers. Makes sense I guess.
2. J.J. has traveled to more places before the age of 4 than I have before I was 20. He has been to Hawaii 3 times, NYC 2 times, Washington D.C., Virginia, California 3 times, Texas, and all other Western States.
3. He will not drink regular milk! Only Soy milk. He won't eat anything with milk in it. No cheese, yogurt, or even ice cream. If we go out for ice cream, he orders a cone.
4. He is a superhero junkie (and he remembers all of their names too). The other day I was trying to remember Ironman's name and he said, "It's Tony Stark, Mom." He wants all of their costumes too.
5. He hides his shoes in random places. I can never find his shoes because he is always hiding them. He says that he doesn't want to put them in the closet because the monsters will get them. The best hiding place...in the goldfish container. I opened it one day and his flip-flops were in there.

I tag Ellie, Cade, and Olivia. Have fun.

Why Women Should Vote

'The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what we want the most for what we want at the moment.'

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago. Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of
'obstructing sidewalk traffic'.

(Lucy Burns)
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women. Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote.
For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

So, refresh my memory. Some women won't vote this year because-why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work? Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?

HBO released a video to DVD called 'Iron Jawed Angels' about the women that fought for our right to vote. I have not yet seen the movie, but I am going to go rent it tonight. I encourage all women to go and watch this video and VOTE!!!
